Of Kingpins and Warlords

Opium is made illegal because it is addictive, we are told. Oxycontin is synthetic opium, and it is even more addictive than the natural produce. More Americans die each year from its use than are killed in war, and thousands more are jailed in the increasing numbers of corporate-owned "prisons for profit" for failure to pay Dr. Doctor for permission to possess it. Why is it not also illegal? Because it can be patented, and sold as "medicine." It is no such thing; it is just another drug.

Why do we bomb the fields of Afghanistan? To prevent the opium farmers from competing with the corporations that make the synthetics. Who gains in this? The billionaire CEOs of Big Pharmo, and the billionaire CEOs of the corporations that "support the troops" by selling the Army bombs, boots, and box lunches. Who loses? Everybody else.

We have become a nation of gluttonous drug-addicted fools, and gold-draped ghouls who grow fat on the suffering and death of others, often as not in the name of God. God bless America? If there is a just God in this world, He will one day bring down this corrupted dream that once was the "land of the free, with liberty and justice for all." If history is a guide, however, it will not be until after we have suffered the Hell on earth we are today creating.
